Icing Recipe

2 lb powdered sugar
7 rounded tablespoons of crisco
1/4 teaspoon of salt
1 teaspoon vanilla
(optional 1 teaspoon moreign powder)

Start mixing with 1/2 cup cold water. You may have to add more. The more you beat this mixture the better the consistency.

I have made birthday cakes and wedding cakes with this recipe. I got it when I took classes at the old Della's cake shop.

The icing that is whipped that Lowes food offers is a stabalized whipped icing that they purchase pre-made. It is called "bettercreme"...and it does need to be refrigerated. They may sell it by the cup...If not, you may purchase it at Rise -N- Shine Bakery

WHIPPED CREAM FROSTING

1 c. whipping cream
Dash of salt
Rounded 1/3 c. flour, sifted
1 c. butter, soft
1 c. sifted confectioners' sugar, 2 for a stiffer frosting
2 tsp. vanilla

Mix cream, flour and salt until lumps are dissolved. Cook over medium heat while stirring continually with a wood spoon. Cook this mixture until thickened and it forms a paste like ball which pulls away from the sides of the pan easily. Allow the paste mixture to cool.

After the paste is cooled, whip. Add the butter and whip together. Add sugar and continue whipping. Add the vanilla and beat well.

This is a good frosting for those who don't like too sweet frosting. In hot, humid weather this frosting tends to be too soft when beating. It will require refrigeration if not to be too soft.

this is a mocked whipped icing recipe

2 tsp. flour
1/2 c. milk
1/4 c. butter
1/4 c. vegetable shortening
1/2 c. sugar (granulated or powdered)
Dash of salt
1 tsp. vanilla

Mix flour with milk in saucepan. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly until very thick (like paste). Cool. Cream shortening and butter together. Add sugar and beat with electric mixer until light and fluffy. Add the cooled flour mixture and beat about 4 minutes or until thoroughly mixed and icing appears like whipped cream. Add a dash of salt and vanilla to icing. This will generously ice a 2 layer cake.
