Doors never did the turtle soup, we used to fish alot down at east Bend there was a old man that camped there all summer he would set bank hooks and invite us to turtle soup, we never tried it, we always took cornmeal and a gas camp stove cleaned and fried fresh cat fish there on the river. On the Turtle I parboil then roll in flour salt / peppr and fry Yummmm Yum, on pet hogs it is fun to watch them grow and gain weight, and they are easy to get attached too, but they Sure looked good to me on the scraping table LOL my hubbie would always ask the man that came and killed them, to take to the vats, to wash down the pins he wouldn't go around when they were shot.I had some ladies from Winston to come up once and have me to show them how to dress hens out. Sometimes when its warm weather I take Tyson hens and let them have free range for about 3 months then dress them out and freeze them, to get of the Junk meds out.

You are so right, Doggielover! I grew up with most of what we ate raised right there on our little farm. I REALLY hated having to hoe the graden when I was a kid, but I didn't mind having the food as a result! I hated having to give up my pets when my dad killed hogs, though. Pigs make great pets! I squalled for about a week every fall over those critters! Of course, my refusal to eat pork usually only lasted about 2-3 months, though!

Calla, great minds think alike! We have a roast in the crock pot...with potatoes and carrots. Been simmering all day, and it smells wonderful! I can't wait!
