Whats for supper????

calla_lily

Posted 3:08 pm, 02/22/2010

I have a beef roast in the crock pot right now. Potatoes, carrots and onions to go in later.

I don't add anything to the roast when I first put it in to cook except for a light sprinkle of Paula Deen's house seasoning:

1 cup kosher salt
1/4 cup gralic powder
1/4 cup black pepper

mix it together and store it in an airtight jar or container.

I'am fixing CHICKEN & DUMPLINGS CREAM POTATOES - CANNED GREEN BEANS What'S the fuss now on this thread, I was raised here in the country, my moma always fixed meat and vegies, & corn bread every evening, my kids grew up the same way, we garden & can / freeze all we can, with the empty nest now when I cook a large meal we eat off of it a day or two.We never eat fast Food the most is KFC once in a while LOL I only grocery shop once ever 6 weeks of course we buy milk/ bread/ and solf drinks alot more often, when I grocery shop I stock up on meats which ever is on sell that week if its chicken - or pork - beef I AVERAGE SPENDING 160- 180.00 EVERY 6 WEEKS and vacun seal all to go to the deep freeze. I used to raise hogs but the last few winters until this winter the temps weren't cold enough to cure hams and side meat well. I raise my own hens for eggs and my daughter has about a 100 head of cattle so once ever two yrs we all split a beef. we also hunt and fish, I also have mud turtle meat in the freezer, you don't have to be rich to eat well, if you were rasied to provide the country way of living

Singer, we raised our own hogs , beef, and chickens We grew practically everything we ate. I remember my Mom churning butter, milking the cow, making homemade cottage cheese, etc.Every Sunday morning for breakfast we had fried chicken, hot bisquits and gravy. Through the week, we had ham, bacon, sausage, tenderloin, eggs. I sure do miss my Mom and Dad too! But, I am getting off topic, back to whats for Supper!!

I don't know if I could raise something then turn around and eat it...but I agree with stressrelief...at least you know what you are eating and it's gotta be better for you than some of the stuff in the stores!

I was just joking about that. I am just jealous of all the good food, and the excellent cooks.

Goddess, My dad always had hogs for pork, cows for beef, and cows for milk.

He salted and cured hams, make home made sausage, and livermush. We had tender loin for breakfast, steak for supper, and gallons of ice cold milk, and home churned butter.

I always had the chore of churning the butter.

He did this until he was in his 80's. If he were still here, and still able, he would still do it.

I miss my Dad.

Definately Cookin! - The meat is purchased - but the fruits and vegies are home grown - cuts the bill way down. I feed a family of four for about $30 a week (I usually get whatever meat is on sale.)

I have a freezer full of food that I grew this summer and worked my butt off freezing.I have shelves in the basement full of canned food that I canned this summer. I don't spend a lot of money on groceries, I am no longer posting on your threads, so don't come behind me and post about what I have posted!!!!

does it really pay to raise your own pork and beef? I wouldn't think so, but must admit I've never done it either...post some helpful hints on that stressrelief.
