Pintos and cornbread but I always soak my beans in baking soda for a couple of hours and then place them in crock pot for 10 to 12 hours with 2 cups of water or depends upon the size of crockpot. let cook oovernight on slow or low and then I turn them up the next morning and then I slice and mince country ham and add it in and let that cook until beans are good and brown. Presto. make sure that water is added as needed.

Homemade Tacos, really you buy the shells, seasoning and meat at the grocery store and at your choice you can add tomato, lettuce, cheese and other toppings but my mother does not buy the seasoning she always makes her own. she adds chili powder and paprika to her meat and brown your meat really good and heat tacos and presto you have a instant meal.

Two or three eggs (over easy or medium) fried in good butter, whole wheat toast, sea salt, a dash or two of Texas Pete, black coffee.

Eat slowly and savor.

It's all in the ingredients. Eggland's Best eggs, good grainy whole wheat bread (not honey wheat,) great butter (preferably unsalted, imported.)

Add a drop of Texas Pete to the yolk and dip in.

Fins, the OP asked for cheap dinner ideas. When you are on a low budget, you take what you can get and be thankful for it. Heck, I would rather have a steak any day over Hamburger Helper but if I can't afford it, I will be just as glad to have a bowl of Hamburger Helper.

Only in Wilkes county would so many people eat hamburger helper. It's like spam in Hawaii.

Manwiches (a.k.a Sloppy Joes)

1 lb of ground beef (less than $4.00)

1 can Manwich sauce (less than $2.00)

1 pack of store brand buns (less than $1.50)

Dinner for atleast 4 people for less than $7.50. Add another couple of dollars and pick up a bag of store brand French fries or a bag of salad mix and there's a pretty darn decent cheap dinner.

The key to good Hamburger Helper is to add some other goodies to jazz it up...garlic, frozen peas, mushrooms, etc.

Homemade potato soup..now how's that for quick and easy.

Picked up some lentils today at Family Dollar. One pound - $1.00. You can cook them without meat - they don't need any. Cut up some carrots and onions and cook with lentils just before they are done, salt and pepper....cheap and good! Just make sure not to put too much water in them. Good source of iron. high in dietary fiber and JUST PLAIN GOOD!

Have cut out a lot of meat from my diet. You can live without so much, you know. I remember eating meat once a week years ago, didn't hurt us a bit!

One quart of creek water, three large rocks with green algey on them, three leaves of what is green in the area. Makes a wonder full pot of soup.

Watch out for poison ivy/oak/sumac. It will tickle your innerds!
