My favorite is the cushaw (sp?) pumpkin. They are cream and green striped and shaped like a gourd, so it was a surprise to me that they tasted better than more traditional looking pumpkins but I love them.

Thanks for the info. I will get a pie pumpkin to try it out. Buying local is almost always the best way to go for produce.

The Jack-o-Lantern pumpkin have less "meat" than the pie pumpkins. I recommend looking for someone that has a sign in their yard advertising pumpkins for sale and getting one. Not only will you get a larger pie pumpkin at a usually lower price than the grocery sytore, but you are also keeping your money local and know where your food is coming from.

I was wondering if the standard pumkins that you carve are the best type of pumpkins to make pumpkin pie. I have seen smaller pumkins that are called pie pumpkins. Is there a great deal of taste difference among the pumpkins? Probably a stupid question but I have wondered. I like to use fresh pumpkin for my recipes.
