Miss Wilco, I use all the ingredients listed, including creamy italian dressing and I just don't think it would be the same if you didn't add sugar. If you want it to taste like the original Sunny Italy you have to add sugar and IMO use the exact recipe goddess posted.

the salad is just this: creamy italian dressing (if u have a hard time finding it they have it at lowes foods mid town plaza in north wilkesboro) sugar (as much as u like depending on how sweet yer taste buds are) and salad delight. nothing else needed. the more complicated recipe is for people who cant find the creamy italian.

I keep reading add salad delight or supreme. What is that? Is it easily found in Wilkes?

I worked there and my job was salad girl. I made all the salads and it is very simple. creamy Italian dressing....salad delight or supreme....sugar. mix into lettuce and celery only with your hands using a folding method in big bowl. I didnt let it set though, I made them as they were ordered right then.

I have the recipe right chear. You get a five pound can Food Lion tomato ketchup and you get a five pound bag of sugar. In a large vat (it doesnt have to be clean) mix the two together with a quart of water to dilute the sugar completely and pour the entire mess over a pound of....on second thought pour the whole mess right down the toilet !

Although, the Italian bottle dressing is a great marinade for chicken!

Thanks 1goddess! I was thinking Italian dry mix. I'm not sure I'd want to try mixing the bottle stuff either. That doesn't sound appealing at all. It's nice to have a backup recipe for those times the hubby swears he can't find the creamy italian.

Most Kraft creamy dressings...have dry sour cream in them...
I don't put to much stock into it really...I just purchase the regular creamy italian dressing....or you can make our own if you choose...
2 tablespoons red wine vinegar
1/2 teaspoon salt 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 cup olive oil
1 clove garlic
3 tablespoons sour cream
2 tablespoons grated parmesan cheese
mix well and let sit in refrigerator for a while...then proceed with the other ingrediants for the Sunny Italy dressing.
I don't know if I would mix oil based Italian dressing with a carton of sour cream though...

@1goddess, on the Italian Dressing ~ I usually buy Kraft Creamy Italian. You mentioned Italian Dressing adding sour cream in your recipe. Is that what you use instead of Kraft Creamy Italian? Sometimes I have a hard time finding the Kraft Creamy Italian. If I can mix Italian and sour cream for the same flavors that would be great! Does it taste a lot like the Kraft Creamy Italian?
*disclaimer: If you couldn't already tell, I'm not the best cook but I am trying to learn!

1goddess, I know there are several different ways to make it. I usually just use the simplest. I got the one I posted from another poster on here a long time ago, but I can't remember who it was. It's become one of our favorites, but I will probably try yours too to compare. Thanks for sharing yours!

I might be wrong, but I think there is more to that recipe...
Sunny Italy Salad Dressing Dissolve 1/2 cup sugar (less if desired) in a small amount of water Add 1 bottle Italian Dressing with sour cream - (Kraft Creamy Italian) Add 3 tbsp. of red wine vinegar Add 3 tbsp. of salad delights Mix all together well. Pour on salad and let set for several hours, sprinkle garlic salt and more salad delights..
I actually do use less sugar....about a 1/4 cup.

I would love their lasagna recipe, the meatballs, & the spread they used on their bread if anyone has them. I miss Sunny Italy!

Salad Dressing:
Creamy Italian Dressing
Sugar (to taste ~ I like a little more than they used)
Salad Delight (Salad Supreme) sprinkled on top
