I use the recipe that is on the back of the bisquick box with the frozen straberries and juices in the freezer section. this is pretty good!

Someone suggested canned strawberries. I have used frozen strawberries. Those in the supermarket are IQF and work wonderfully well. Try those. The peaches also are great for short cake. BTW, bisquik has a recipe for shortcake on the package.

If you ever want to make strawberry shortcake when strawberries are out of season, you can buy canned strawberries from Family Dollar. Pour the juice in a pot and add some extra sugar and some corn starch for thickening. Bring to a boil and after it thickens put the strawberries back in with the syrup and chill in fridge. It makes really good topping for the shortcakes with whipped cream.

Thank you Lroseidoc for the strawberry shortcake. I made it for Easter. It
was a BIG hit. Everyone loved it. I was hoping to bring the leftovers home.
There was none. THANK YOU!

1 box Moist Deluxe Yellow cake mix
1 small box vanilla pudding

Add dry pudding to cake mix along with other ingredients on cake box
Bake as directed in 2- 9" pans. Let cool.

Take a knife or string and divide each layer into 2 each-total of 4 layers

Crush and sweeten about 1/2 to3/4 gallons of berries(depending on how many berries you want on the cake) Let sit while cake is baking.

Put 1 cake layer on plate(one that will hold juice) and spoon over top approx 1/4 of berries, then another cake layer on top of that, repeat until all 4 layers are stacked. finish with last of berries(make sure you do not run out of berries before you do cake layers)
Put cool whip on each piece as it is served. Keep leftovers if any in refrigerator. UM_M_M_M!

There's a section on fresh strawberries in the new edition of Southern Living along with the old recipe for shortcakes. Keep in mind these resemble more of a biscuit than a cake.
