The oil they used to cook the burgers in was Mazola Corn oil.

Oh yeah, thats one thing missing from the recipes I have read, the old grease. I remember someone telling me once that you knew a place was good when the grease was so old that everything tasted the same.

Unless you have the three year old oil and the crusty old frying grill from the original goodwill kitchen, you'll never get them "just right" !
You also have to remember that livermush was regularly fried in the same grease, as was several other foodstuffs which would taint that oil.
If someone could work up an oil which approximated the oil from the original kitchen, then we'd have some deeeelicious gw burgers!
Those were some of the best cases of heartburn i've ever had!

I tried maizes how ever you spell it the other day they are pretty close they will give you a good ol dose of heartburn like the original,a co worker told me that on monday woodhaven had them and they were good but I have not tried them

i passed mazy's?(mazies?) rest on 2nd street hill tuesday they were advertising 5 for 5 if you dont want to cook them yourself (i have no idea if they are edible or not)

Satan, do you know anywhere that still serves Goodwill burgers? I remember Wykes gas station use to have a sign that said they did.

These from GoWilkes ,,, Goodwill burgers 1 1 pound of breakfast sausage (canned Beverly Brand) 1 pound of hamburger meat 1 large onion finely chopped 1 cup of bread crumbs (any kind...buns, sandwich bread etc...) salt & pepper to taste mix thoroughly ..pat out in hamburger shape, fry in wesson oil til done. serve on hamburger buns with mustard and slaw. Enjoy! GOODWILL BURGERS 2 1/4 lb. ground beef 3 hamburger buns-wet and pinched into small pieces 1/2 tsp. sugar 1 tsp. chili powder 2 tbsp.cornmeal 2 tbsp. flour 1/4 cup oatmeal mix well fry in oil makes 4-5 burgers
