Sry... I keep getting ideas and I hope they are helping someone! You can buy Ranch dressing and fruit cups at the store in disposable containers, but what I do is buy those little Rubbermaid containers that are the same size. I found mine at the Dollar Tree awhile back. I put my own stuff in them. Much, much cheaper! I never buy the travel size stuff. I also buy my ziplock bags at the Dollar Tree as they are simply going to be thrown away. Trust me, every penny counts. Many times, her lunch consists of leftovers or something made of leftovers, such as the meatball sub. We had had spaghetti with meatballs the night before. I held out the meatballs before I served dinner.
The important key to remember is that kids will eat what they have a say in. I let my daughter help pick out her lunch stuff. I usually give her a choice of two or three main dishes; she picks her fruit and veggies, and dessert. More likely to eat that way. She always gets water to drink. She brings the bottle home and we refill it. She prefers water because she gets so thirsty.
If I can think of anything else, I will try and post it. We have been making her lunch for about 4 years now, off and on. We usually post the menu and she decides what days she wants to eat school lunch or a packed lunch. Again, her choice. :)

I love this website. Each link has several pages to "flip" through.

I used the Campbell's soup container from Wal-Mart. Directions said to run really hot water over it to activate it- this was two years ago though. I used it for anything I needed to keep hot. I served mac 'n' cheese with octopuses (remember to use a toothpick to create faces), fresh fruit & veggies. She loved it. Packed her lunch last night- ham/turkey/cheese roll-ups, goldfish crackers, peaches, veggies, and dessert w/ water to drink. If you semi-freeze the water, it keeps everything in the pack cold.

I let her pick out the type of sandwiches- I personally like the wraps. She has had pepperoni roll-ups, ham/ turkey/ cheese, chicken strips, pb&j, ect. Made her meatball subs a few times. Packed the bread separate and put the meatballs in the soup container. She loved that one as well. The soup container is not a thermos btw. It is round and only about 2" high. I will look for the other ideas I have used. My mom sent a really cool book for lunchbox ideas. It is shaped like a lunchbox. It is called The Lunchbox Book by Annie Gilbar.

horton, what kind of sandwiches did you fix? When you packed your daughter "octopuses" for lunch what else would you pack with it?Thank you. Where did you find a container that a child could open with something warm in it?

My daughter loves for me to make "octopuses" for lunch. They are simply hot dogs that I cut into fourths half the way up the hot dog. Place in boiling water until the "4 tentacles" curl up.
Mac"n"cheese (make sure it is in a container that will keep it warm, ravioli, sandwiches, veggies, cookies, water/ juice, fresh fruit, pudding cups.
I made my daughter's lunch for two years. She loved it, I would always include a joke or an "I love you" in her bag. For her dessert, I would make something really special, like a cool cupcake. I usually based my creations on the season. I used large Wilton cookie cutters to cut out her sandwiches into various fun shapes. A few of her friends asked me to do their lunches!
