Whitehawk, this was a special treat for me to see this recipe. Our family ALWAYS makes these at chistmas. They are a personal favorite. Thank you for the wonderful memories your recipe invoked!

The original receipe called for chopped pecans. They were too big for me so I just grind them a little. They are not really fine but are large enough to be able to be identified by taste. I would try for pieces that are about 1/8th inch. If you have ever bought the wedding cookies at the grocery store you will know the size. Kids really love this cookie and they keep very well.

How well ground do the nuts need to be? Powdery? Small pieces?

Here's a simple, quick sweet to serve with your Russian tea:

1
cup softened butter

1/2
cup powdered sugar

1
teaspoon vanilla extract

1/4
teaspoon salt

2 1/4
cup self rising flour

3/4
ground pecans or other nuts

Cream butter, powdered sugar, salt and vanilla together.

Add flour and chopped nuts gradually.
Heat the oven to 350.
The mix will now be a crumbly dough, roll into small balls.
Take cookies out when bottoms are slightly brown, When still hot, Roll in powdered sugar, cool for 20 minute. Roll 3 or 4 times in powdered sugar.
