Question? Is it allright(safe) to cook with a can of Hunts Diced Tomatos that is labeled best to use

I worked in foodservice for several years. Our motto was when in doubt throw it out. I think youve been giving some good advise by everyone.

The best way to be safe is to look, smell and taste. Some canned items do lose some of their flavor if they get too old and will ruin the taste of whatever you put them in.

I still eat soup with expiration dates of 2009 and 2010 on them. If the top of the can is not bulging up it should be safe to eat. If you can push the top down with your finger and it pops back up, DON'T EAT IT. It is spoiled.

Acidic foods such as tomatoes are considered "safe" up to 6 months past expire date.

Agree. The smell test is goo for canned goods. The main thing to look for, however, is a swollen can.

i personally think it would be ok, i have used some canned stuff that is out of date as long as when it was opened it looked smelled and tasted the way it was supposed to. anytime i have used an out of date canned product i do a little tatste test before adding it to the main dish
