No matter what I do or how I string & break green beans, there are ALWAYS strings in them. I love fresh beans but hate the work since it reminds of sitting in front of 2 bushels as a child & not getting up until they were finished!!!

Goddess, I seriously thought about not snapping them and just breaking the ends off. But then I remember who I was fixing them for... if they don't look like his tradional green beans, he'll sneer his nose up and then Id have to resort to violence.

Some varieties have lots of strings, others hardly any. Some are called stringless, even those usually have at least a few strings. I prefer the ones with more strings, because then you can remove them by stringing and breaking. The others seem to have strings that appear after they are cooked, I dispise to eat beans that still have strings after cooking...it's like eating a mouthful of hair!
A lot of people cut them with a knife instead of breaking them, but, I prefer breaking them so I can remove more strings.
What time do WE eat? A good pot of green beans would taste pretty good right about now!

I don't even snap those...I break off the ends...and stir fry them whole till almost done then add a little water to finish steaming them off to crisp tender....of course there's gotta be some fatback or bacon added to the mix

If they are the slim green beans then there are next to no strings...
if they are half runners...then there are strings everywhere...and can be tough to break or snap.
if they are pole beans there again are strings...shouldn't be any trouble snapping them at all.

gotta pull the strings before you snap them. "Is there a quick way to snap these things. It's taking me forever!" ...nope don't forget the fatback or they gonna taste like poop

They may be a different variety that don't require snapping or destringing? I'm no bean expert, maybe you should pm empowers, she seems to the resident bean connoisseur !

I have a couple.
I bought some fresh green beans from the grocery store earlier. Rather, I was persuaded to as I don't really care for green beans. However..
Are all green beans suppose to have strings? I swear as I snap these, I haven't found any strings so far.
And... dear John Brown, Cheese&Crackers!!, Is there a quick way to snap these things. It's taking me forever!
