Old stuff is not better than new products. That's a myth that morons tell each other about everything. Modern products are developed with science and technology. Manufacturers have used computers to learn how metals heat. And what combinations of metals work best. And they use computers and automated machines to always produce products that are consistent in ideal thickneses and combinations of metals.

The key is to buy quality.

My mom used to cook everthing in aluminum guardian ware, but I'm trying to avoid aluminum because of the Alzheimer's connection. She had a dutch oven that she used to make stews, sauces, pot roasts, chili and soups, that all cooked for extended periods of time.

Another friend's mom swore by her guardian ware and she too has Alzheimer's. Probably coincidence but I would rather not chance it.

I've always wanted a coofee mug that looks like a miniature toilet. A matching crock pot would be nice also.

For everyday use, I have my moms old Visions by Corning. Built to last as long as you don't cook above medium high.

Truth...I just did a search on that and the older the better...
High....I have my sister in laws husband's great grandmother's cast iron skillet.
That thing is priceless.
I should give it back after all, I was the only female in the family to cook in HIS kitchen...
it was an honor....

It depends on what I'm cooking. If I'm making a big batch of spaghetti sauce for canning or chili or soup I like a good stainless steel pot but if I'm frying eggs, hash browns or steaks I like heavy duty aluminum frying pans with Teflon coating. I have used the expensive frying pans with the copper bottom and ceramic coating and they aren't worth the extra cost because eventually the Teflon or ceramic coating will get buggered up just like the cheaper ones will. Just like seasoned cast iron frying pans the Teflon and ceramic coated frying pans should never be cleaned with dish soap, just hot water and a towel or sponge. Never use metal tools with Teflon coated pans.

Calphalon is the one to choose. But as others have said, stay away from the low-end prices as they are not the quality of the mid-upper range priced.

I have Revere but it has the aluminum disc in bottom for even heating. Works great and lower maintenance than copper clad

The pre 68 revere ware is what I am talking about. It is very heavy weight stainless. They still market it under the name but the newer stuff is thinner and so is the copper bottom.

I. have not used Teflon in years, I have cast iron skillets and such including a wok.
I have had stainless steel top grade back in the day.
Really looking at copper and stainless steel.
The depth of cooking generates ones choice in cookware.
I would deeply consider myself more than a hobbiest....
as my cooking skills span multi cultural cuisines.

I've got news for you fins....I've got pots and pans from my grandmother handed down from my mother I wouldn't take a million dollars for....lol....it aint like you are buying bloomers for heavens sake....I find it interesting that each used piece has so much history behind it...you can put it in the dish washer.....

It's stainless steel and copper, and made way better than new stuff. Have you never used bon ami and steel wool? Strangers are using strange pots and pans to coke all your fancy food in, fins.

You can find vintage Revere ware on the site that starts with an E and ends in bay, I've even found a couple of pieces at the goodwill. It has a copper bottom and is stainless. I do use my grandmas cast iron skillet all the time, and have a set of stainless pots with vented lids.

Belks carries Builtmore House, I have no idea what quality it is but dayummm it's a heavy, heavy cookware and it's been great for me. I lucked up and found some german Asta cookware from miss smonk on here and it cooks like a dream!

Cuisinart is and over rated brand name. I like my calphone. But realize they have different grades and their lowest stuff is crap with their name stamped on it. All brands do that now.

Look for good weight with an even copper layer sandwiched between the stainless steel. Try to get something where the copper is up the sides too and not just the bottom. The cheaper stuff is just in the bottom. Stainless doesn't heat well. That's why they sandwich copper between the layers.
