Last time I made pintos instead of using water I used beef broth. I never use meat for seasoning because it makes them taste too rich for me. I used the broth with less sodium because I have a family member who cannot eat salt because of his heart. Using the broth gave the beans a better flavor and I didn't have to add extra salt.

I always do pintos in the crock pot. Put them in the crock pot in the morning and let the cook all day until dinner. They always turn out great.

Use a ricer or potato masher to mash up/puree at least 1 cup of pintos to add back to the crockpot to help thicken. This should be done about 1-1/2 hours before finishing. Also, a 1/4 cup smooth peanut butter will also help thicken but will not add a peanut butter taste.Salt (or garlic salt) should be added at this time. A little goes a long way.
Pintos always seem to taste better the second day after having cooled down and then reheated.

lilbear I usually soak a lb of pintos overnight in a covered bowl, PLENTY of cold water. In the morning put the softened beans in you crockpot with your seasoning meat, (I prefer a hambone but whatever you like)cover the beans with FRESH cold water , 2 inches OVER the top of the beans. Cover and cook on high, they'll be ready by supper. Add salt and pepper to taste after Church.

3-4 people 1 cup (power boil them for 15-20 minutes, rinse well) then put in the crockpot. Just cover w/water, if you need to add more water in the am you can (make sure you heat it first)

I think you mean 6 cups of water instead of 6 cups of pintos. I have never had any luck cooking beans in the crock pot.
