It depends on the meat you're using. If you're doing carne asada (steak), you'll marinade the meat for several hours.

Here's what I use:

3lbs of steak
1/3 cup of vinegar
1/2 cup of soy sauce
2 limes
1/2 cup of olive oil
1 teaspoon of garlic salt
2 teaspoons of pepper
1 teaspoon of chili powder
1 teaspoon of oregano
1 teaspoon of ***in
1 teaspoon of paprika

Put the steaks in a big plastic bag. Mix everything else up, then pour it in the bag over the steaks. Make sure both sides are coated well, then put it in the refrigerator for 1 to 8 hours. Don't do more than 8 hours, or the vinegar will ruin the meat.

After it's all marinated, cut the steak in strips then fry it in a large skillet over medium high heat, until most of the liquid is evaporated.

Serve it over warm corn shell tortillas (the soft kind), and top with pico de gallo. You can make pico de gallo yourself, but you can buy it premixed at Food Lion in the vegetable section for cheaper. It's just chopped tomato, chopped onion, and cilantro.

This recipe will make 15 tacos, which is usually enough to feed 5 adults.
