Thanks Whitehawk! I'm not much of a cookie baker and I need all the help I can get.

I'm sorry I am not on the edge of the knife with my instructions. A stick of butter is 4 ounces or 1/2 cup. I use Land 'o Lakes and i buy it in half stick packages, i.e., 8 half sticks. When I make them I use 2 half sticks and that is why I wrote my instructions in the confused manner I did.

Sorry, I'm not having a lot of luck with recipes today. 1/2 cup of butter is 1 stick...I would like to make these cookies...is it 1/2 or 1 cup of butter?

Well, heck! don't know what happened there. Just decided to post on its own.Hmmm!

DIRECTIONS:

1. In medium mixing bowl beat butter with electric mixer on med to hi-speed for 30 seconds.

Add the 1 cup sugar, baking soda, and cream of tartar. Beat until combined, scraping sides of bowl occasionally. Beat in egg and vanilla. Beat in as much of the flour as you can with the mixer. Using a wooden spoon, stir in remaining flour. Cover and chill in the refrigerator for 1 hour.

2,. In small mixing bowl combine the 2 tbsp sugar and the cinnamon. Shape dough into 1-inch balls. Roll balls in the sugar-cinnamon mixture to coat. Place 2 inches apart on an ungreased cookie sheet.

3. Bake in a 375 degree oven for 10 to 11 minutes or until edges are golden brown. Transfer cookies to a wire rack or clean towel; cool. Makes about 3 dozen cookies.

I haven't made these in a long time. A posting I received today reminded me of them. Originally from Better Homes and Gardens.

1 cup granulated sugar

1/4 tsp baking soda

1/4 tsp cream of tartar

1 large egg (or egg beaters to equal 1 large egg.)
