In a pinch you can season with a little olive oil..

I prefer a bit of country ham myself.

if they are not presoaked remember how much gas they will create. lol this lady i know fixed some for the grils at her work place. she had never fix them before. she did not presoak them. my wife said they all were gased up and ui know the results of that. yep, they went around all evening letting it go. lol

after that my wife told her she needed to soak them over night. lol i laughed my butt off.

have fun irish. lol

I was going to add to put bacon or a slab of ham or fatback in them for seasoning but isle and tapestry beat me to it.

There should be twice as much water as beans. Use a high setting to have ready in about 4-6 hours, low for 8-10 hours. Will depend on amount of beans you use.

Be sure to keep lid on crock pot, do not remove lid to stir. That will make it loose heat and take longer to cook. Check beans about after 3-4 hours on high if tender turn heat to low.

For flavor, add 3 slices bacon or 1/8 cup ham pieces. Do not add salt if you use bacon or ham.

Hope this helps

If you haven't presoaked them and they are still dry and assuming your crock pot is about the same size as mine. One pound beans, pot full of water, high for about 4-5 hours. Just check them around 4 hours to see if they are done. Make sure you add seasoning (salt pepper)

I would normally ask hubby or just let him make them himself. BUT I thought I would make some and surprise him. I know to put them in the crock pot, but if I want them ready for this evening what setting should I use. Low or high? And how much water do you put in there? A whole pot full?

I am a yankee. We don't eat pintos up here :)
