i use self rising flour-cut up crisco with a fork into the flour-enough milk to make the consistency of thick oatmeal-pour the mixture on some flour on a piece of tinfoil. fold the mixture over until kinda dry and pinch off the the sides of both hands at same time kinda round off and put on a baking sheet, then put a small dot of crisco on each biscuit-bake 400 deg until brown after several attempts you will get the hang of it.

grimey, you need to come over one Saturday morning for biscuits and sausage gravy. We're trying to eat cereal with fat free milk during the week and then reward ourselves on the weekends for being good. Oh wonderful REWARDS!!!

PS: my invitation is sincere.

2 cups self rise flour
1 tb baking powder(yes, even with the self rise flour)
1 tb sugar(because baking powder tastes bitter)
2/3 cup shortening or tub butter
2 cups buttermilk
mix thoroughly with a sturdy spoon
press out with hands onto a floured surface
cut out biscuits(if you don't have a biscuit cutter, you can make one by cutting an air hole in the bottom of a plastic peanut butter jar)
line up on baking sheet which has been sprayed with nonstick spray
put in oven pre-heated to 425 degrees and bake until brown, 16-18 minutes

When I worked at a fast food restaurant I used 1/2 gallon buttermilk and 5 lbs biscuit mix that already had the shortening in it. Try to scale it down and do not mix until smooth; it should have some flour lumps remaining, otherwise you will have a pan full of hockey pucks. I hope this helps.
