i have a deer leg or just the top part. the guy that gave me it called it a ham. He just cut it up and wrapped it and froze it. How long would it take to defrost its large. Next question is should i soak it in beer, milk, water & vinegar or just cook it like i got it? I am planning on cooking my in a roast bag and cooking it like it was a beef roast. Please help me , I could use any suggestions.+

i use allegro marinated sause a whole bunch when cooking any deer meat. you can find it with the bbq and steak sauces in a gold foil topper. slice meat off the bone in thin steaks and beat them with a meat tenderizer have cubed steak, cut it in 2 inch chunks and stew it with the beef broth with onions, bay leaves,garlic,carrots,potatos...

Anytime you cook deer meat you can add beef broth or a cube and it makes it really good

Unless your cooking for a large family I would suggest cutting a couple steaks out of it and then cutting smaller portions of the balance for crock pot stews.

Deer Roast Wash and dry ham. preheat oven to 350º Use a Reynolds baking bag ,aluminum foil . Use a large baking pan or throw away pan. Ingredients I large onion 4 cloves garlic sliced 1/2 pound bacon cut in 2 inch pieces salt and black pepper onion powder garlic powder paprika cider vinegar water or beer If you use the bag follow instructions on bag for baking IIf you use pan cover with foil while baking wash and dry ham Use a knife and cut slots in ham insert a small piece of garlic ,onion and bacon in each slot ,Make about 10 slots. sprinkle with salt, pepper ,onion and garlic powder and paprika. Put in bag or pan.and add 1 cup water and 1/2 cup vinegar. Cover and bake for about 4 hours. If you use a bag you can't baste the roast but if you use the pan check at 1 and 2 hours and baste add more water if needed.. Meat will be tender and delicious in 3 to 4 hours Check tenderness with a fork. Serve with your favorite BBQ sauce or use recipe below. Cooked BBQ Sauce: 1 cup ketchup or tomato paste 1/4 cup brown sugar 1/4 cup molasses 1/4 cup vinegar 1 onion, diced very finely 2 cloves garlic, crushed and diced 1 tbs Louisiana hot sauce, or to taste 2 tsp dry mustard Olive oil for sauteing onions 1 small lemon 2 drops smoke flavoring 1/2 tps pepper flakes 1 cup water if needed Saute the onions in olive oil over medium heat for about 5 minutes, add garlic and continue to cook for 2 minutes. Add all the remaining ingredients (except the lemon), plus a cup of water. Bring to a boil then reduce heat to low. Simmer for at least an hour. Add more water if it gets too dry. When ready to use, if it's too liquidy then raise heat to high and reduce until it thickens, stirring constantly. When sauce is ready, turn off heat and stir in the juice from one small lemon.

My neighbor went hunting and shot this big deer. He gave me this big deer leg. I would love to cook it, but have no idea how to do that. I love to cook, but I have never cooked deer meat. Can anyone help me and give a good recipe. Maybe for the oven, that would be great.
thx
