I rarely ever thaw meat. As I cook almost all meat on my grill, i.e., roasts, fish, chicken, lamb, specialty meats, etc. If there are a few ice crystals on the meat then I don't worry about that either. Won't hurt you.

I don't defrost in the microwave either. It cooks the edges and sometimes cooks the inside of meats too. Yuck!

those crystals are just the excess water that was in the meat

Lucy, That's good to know hehehe
Workinmom, corn on the, mashed taters, home made wheat bread
I agree on the funky microwave thawing. I don't like to heat anything with a microwave, makes the bread soft and yucky

Zombie call the meat department at one of the food stores and ask them...this is one aspect of freezing meat they are taught...

Microwave thawing is easier, and much faster.

In the future, wrap it in another wrap over the store wrap. Freezer paper, or foil closed tightly. Will keep a long time.
But there is nothing wrong with this one except to your eyes. If there is a dark part you just can't stand, cut it out. and cook it. Hope you've thawed it first. If not thaw in fridge over night or until it is thawed. Or thaw in microwave on defrost.

I'm still paranoid about it, it had a lot of the tiny crystals on it

It should be fine if you're going to cook it today. Open it and run some water over it. If there are no white areas on it, go for it.

I have a roast that has tiny ice crystals on it inside the wrapper. It's been in the freezer since march 17th, do you think it's freezer burnt?
