not to be off topic about saving food but i also put my dryer sheets in a zip lock bag when i open them. they keep ther smell longer. i always open up any cookies amd put them in a zip lock bag or a plastic container if i have one the right size not currently in use. one time i used left over meatloaf in my spaghettii sauce. nobody knew till i told them they loved it. i didnt have any leftovers. its always fun to be creative with food. right noew i am in a cookie baking mood. chocolate chip heaven here today.

You can lay them on a plate covered with a moist paper towel and it will revive them as well. It works on hardened leftover biscuits I have from previous meals.

Doughnut Bread Pudding
4 stale raised glazed donuts
1/2 cup raisins or other dried fruit
2 eggs (room temperature)
1 (12 fluid ounce) can evaporated milk
2 tablespoons white sugar (optional)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon almond extract (optional)
1 teaspoon grated orange zest
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Lightly grease a small glass baking dish.
Tear the donuts into bite-size pieces. Combine donut pieces and raisins in the prepared baking dish. In a medium bowl, use an electric mixer to blend together the eggs, evaporated milk, sugar, vanilla extract and almond extract. Mix in the cinnamon and nutmeg. Pour the milk mixture over the donuts in the dish, and press down lightly to help absorption. Let stand for 15 minutes, or cover and refrigerate overnight.
Place the baking dish inside a larger baking dish, and fill the outer dish with enough water to go about halfway up the sides. A dishcloth may also be placed under the bread dish, to prevent drying.
Bake for 35 to 40 minutes in the preheated oven, or until a knife inserted near the center comes out clean. Serve warm.
FOOTNOTE
This recipe can easily be doubled, but be sure to use a larger baking dish. Your baking time may increase by about 15 minutes too.

Suparpye, I thought about putting butter on them after I got them in the oven but I figured they already had a lot of fat grams in them as it was, LOL. I bet it would have made the top crisp up better. Next time I get doughnuts I will put them in tupperware.

good thinking kellye. you could if they were just plain glazed doughnuts, fried them in some butter. grilled doughnuts are soooo good. add a scoop of vanilla ice cream in the middle and wow what a good quick dessert. when buying those kinds of things i always immediately put them in a plastic container with a lid, they last much longer. i do the same with store bought cookies, put them in a zip loc bag and they stay fresh much longer, also chips immediately go in a zip loc bag. the bags are cheaper at Dollar General store than anywhere that i have found

What a waste of money right? Well I had half a dozen doughnuts sitting here dried up, but not bad or moldy. I thought I'd experiment with them instead of see them go in the trash. I cut them into fourths and placed them into a glass oven safe dish. I then mixed a cup of powdered sugar, a few dashes of cinnamon, and about 2/3 cup milk. I poured this concoction over the doughnuts and baked for about 15 minutes. Then I sprinkled granular sugar over the top and baked another 15 minutes.

The result was sweet, crisp on top, chewy in the middle.... overall it was pretty good and I didn't waste the doughnuts.

Anybody else like to experiment with food like this?
