I forgot to add the msg. I am type 2 diabetic and have this since April 2003. I am only 45 years old. It was strong generation in my family. I just eat normal food and learn not to overeat, just limited amount of food with no second plate and avoid buffet.

Cheesecake.  I don't know how cheap this actually is because a couple of the items last a while and can be used for other things.  This isn't completely sugar free (not much is) but a lot of the ingredients are.
*1/2 cup Splenda or Artificial Sweetener of Your Choice *1 brick Neufchatel cheese (the lower fat version of cream cheese...found right beside it at the store...and actually makes a creamier cheesecake).*1 container of Sugar Free Cool Whip*Sugar Free Strawberry Preserves / Jelly*A Graham Cracker Pie Crust (I don't think there is a low sugar way to get around this one).Let cheese soften.  Either bring let sit to room temperature or warm in microwave for just under a minute. Mix in 1/2 cup Sweetener til well blended, add cool whip and mix well.Pour mixture into the Graham Cracker Crust and chill in refrigerator until firm.Add a layer of SF Strawberry Preserves onto top of cheesecake.Alternatively, Fresh strawberries may be used, but this adds Carbohydrates.
AGAIN, this is NOT a SUGAR FREE food, just a lot lower in carbohydrates that ordinary versions of cheesecake.

My dad was a bad diabetic also. He had to take shots twice a day. Yes they do crave sweets. He died about 6 yrs. ago this April. He was 87. For the last year of his life we let him eat whatever he wanted and quit trying to deprive him of anything that he enjoyed. To live to be that age I feel that they deserve to enjoy what time they have left. And so we let him and we don't regret it one bit. There is a website that has alot of recipes for diabetics. Recipezaar is one and also Recipe4living. Hope this helps !!!! Good luck.

mamma, I buy those whole grain elgish muffins. I will cook eggs and fix him sandwiches on those. He also likes them with peanut butter and sugar free jelly.

For dinner, whole grain rice, small baked potato, lots of green beggies and salads and then chicken , beef, whatever is in the fridge. It's a constant struggle. He wasn't one that ate sweets much but after he found out he was diabetic he seemed to crave the, Go figure.
