Yea, chargher. canned green beans from garden always tasted the best than can. I do love halfrunner. It is truth it is hard to find one at grocery store but I always looked for blue lake green beans. it taste also good. Yea I do always cook potatoes with green beans while liquid is still plenty to cook potatoes. I never seen my mom or sisters added more water to green beans. They always left sidemeat (look like bacon but not) cooked with green beans. I do not leave mine. I cooked sidemeat till brown then remove them and add green beans with or without potatoes. My boyfriend never tasted green beans with potatoes. His mom never cook them. I told him it is because he is city boy. lolzz

I can my own greens beans from my garden every yr. I like taking not fat back, but it looks like fatback but has a little meat on it, I think it's called pork ham, looks like bacon. Cook for at least 3 hrs. Making sure to add water as needed until done. You can also add potatoes about 30 minutes before the beans are done. Very good and simple to make. Half runners is the type of green beans i use. Hard to find in the grocery store. But can use any green beans, even ones from a can are good if cooked with the meat. YUM YUM

Bob\'s Green Beans 6 thick slices bacon, cut into 1 inch pieces 1 (16 ounce) package frozen cut green beans 1/4 cup butter 1/4 cup packed brown sugar Fry the bacon in a large skillet over medium heat until done, but not quite crisp, about 9 minutes. Drain off grease and add butter and brown sugar. Cook and stir over medium heat until sugar has dissolved; remove from the heat and set aside. Place the green beans into a pot and fill with about 1 inch of water. Bring to a boil then cover, and steam over medium heat until cooked through, about 5 minutes. Drain off water and stir in the sugar and bacon mixture. Serve immediately.

2 eggs 3/4 cup milk 1/2 cup fine dry bread crumbs 1/4 cup finely chopped onion 2 tablespoons snipped parsley 1/2 teaspoon sage 1 1/2 pounds ground beef 1/4 cup catsup 2 tablespoons brown sugar 1 teaspoon dry mustard
Oven 350 degree
Combine eggs and milk; stir in crumbs, onion, parsley, salt, sage, and 1/8 teaspoon pepper. Add beef; mix well. Pat into a mixture into an 8x4x2-inch loaf pan; bake for 1 1/4 hours. Spoon off fat. Combine catsup, sugar, and mustard; spread over meat. Return to oven for 10 minutes. Serves 6.
As for green beans, I always use fatback sidemeat. I would fry them about 3 to 4 sidemeats, till brown then remove them, reserve the grease and add couple cans of cutting or kitchen style green beans, be cautious the grease will be hot when u add green beans, let it boil and keep watch it from burn till it had very littlebit liquid and ready to eat. I usually would add small potatoes with green beans. it was very good. It was very old fashioned way. it had been go on with my family from grandma, mom and aunts. YUMMY. I watched them and learned them by myself.

I make my green beans a little different than anyone here it seems. To a can of green beans, home canned or store bought larger size can:
1 chicken bullion cube
1 tablespoon olive oil
salt to taste
about a teaspoon of dried minced onions
I heat them until the bullion cube dissolves and taste for salt.

My meat loaf is pretty simple.
1 lb Hamburger Meat 1 Pack of Saltine Crackers 1 Can of Tomato Soup 1/2 an onion cut up 1 egg
I mix all of that in a bowl using only 1/2 a can of tomato sauce. Put into my baking dish and top w/ the other half can of tomato soup. This makes great meatloaf sandwiches.

My kids love for me to drain all of the juice from the green beans and boil them in Swanson's Chicken Broth. Pretty tasty. At least it's one way my kids will eat green beans. They are also good to throw in some ham or fat back to boil. Depends on what taste you are looking for.

I agree on the meatloaf recipe...I make a similar one to Rye's and it's great.
As for green beans, easy! If I don't have fresh, I prefer to use canned. Just a big piece of fat back or a few slices of bacon, a tiny bit of salt, and some pepper. The key is to simmer them on a low heat setting for a good long while...get all the fat to render and boil the juice down. The longer you can give 'em, the better.

I concur with sugarpye on rye's meatloaf recipe....
I even added my take on it...mixed it exactly as rye suggested...then I take bacon strips and place across meatloaf and then spread ketchup on top....I tell ya...it really is good.
Not sure what kinda green beans you're cooking....but I never boil green beans anymore...I use a nonstick frying pan...couple of tablespoons of olive oil...heat till I see a little steam then put in fresh green beans....stir fry/steam at that heat for a few minutes...lower heat and let them steam in their own juices...if needed I will add 1/2 cup to a cup of water...depending on how many beans I'm cooking.
I know you can't necessarily do that with half runners though, you gotta boil them...I just don't eat many of those.
