I like the bay leaves when its all ground up. Its more presentable dish. This is an old family recipe. However , you can use the ones's they sell with the leaves at the store. Walmart carries it. I usually get my seasoning from Miami. I brought some from Miami. We call it " laurel" but its bay leaves. You can also add green peppers to the black beans. However its not spicy. Cuban food is not spicy. It just gives it an added taste. My little one just loves eating black beans like a soup. You can serve with crackers. You can also serve with rice and complement it with meat. Keep reading my journey . I will post more tips. I will also be posting pictures of the dishes.

Your black beans recipe called for laurel as a seasoning, where do you get that at?

I'm starting an adventure in mastering cuban cooking in a year. I tried the carne con papa recipe yesterday. I will be trying each day until I master it. I was inspired by the movie Eat, Pray, Love. My journey starts this week into mastering Cuban cuisine. I will share recipes with you too. These are fun recipes to try. They also have desserts and pastries.
