I'm exploring this as part of my own ( eat, pray, love experience). I read the book and it inspired me.I have been focusing on cooking the basics rice, beans, meat . I tried pudding the other day. I just have to update the hub. I'm also making the empanada dough to make meat empanadas. I'm practicing.

Cuban cooking sounds very interesting and good! I am going to try some of your receipes! I have been cooking Mexican food for over 20 years but now that I have moved from California to North Carolina its not as easy to find some ingredients, or if I do find them they just aren't the same -- like avacados! Nothing like fresh Calif Hass. So I look forward to your testing Cuban cusine!!!

I had a cuban sandwich at the little restaurant in Wilkesboro a week ago. It was really good. Not really adventurous with food, but I enjoyed it. Didn't get wild with trying something hugely different, but I'll try it again for sure.

Can you share the recipe you found without the French bread? I would be interested in trying one without it if it is that much better.

Here's the Cuban sandwich I make. I got it from Paula Deen's show. It is similar to one they make at the Cuban restaurant. I use my George Foreman grill to cook it.
Ingredients 1 loaf French bread Mayonnaise Dijon mustard 1/4 pound thinly sliced ham 4 slices Swiss cheese Kosher dill pickles, sliced Butter, for grilling Directions Slice the bread in half lengthwise. Spread one half with mayonnaise and the other with mustard. Layer the ham and Swiss cheese on 1 half of the bread. Layer the pickle slices over the cheese. Top with the other bread half. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, heat enough butter to coat the cooking surface. Place the sandwich in the pan and weight with another heavy pan or a brick wrapped in foil and grill until the cheese is melted. Cut the loaf to make 4 sandwiches.

They are also served at the nice restaurant here in Wilkesboro. I love their cooking too. I'm still on the main course dishes right now. Like rice, beans, meat .I like the meat and potatoes ( carne con papa). I also love trying the plantains. I will try to add to my hubpage sandwiches too. However, I'm exploring the rice, beans, meats, desserts too. Like rice pudding cuban style. I love that.
Tonight I made "fufu de platano" con picadillo - (plantains, meat ) . I will be posting soon all these recipes on the hubpage.
