i have been making my own cereals for quite some time now. the only time i buy cereal is when i start jonesing for some frosted mini wheats.

this is kind of a basic recipe. if you don't have the fruit, it still works out good. i add spices now and then. today i made some and added cinammon and nutmeg. i substituted some of the honey with maple syrup. it all still comes out just fine. its easy and its good

Ingredients
2/3 cup honey1/2 cup canola oil1/3 cup packed brown sugar2 teaspoons vanilla4 cups old-fashioned oats1 cup sliced nuts (almonds, pecans, walnuts etc)1 cup flaked coconut2 cups dried fruit (raisins, craisins, figs, dates, etc) Directions
Combine the honey, oil and brown sugar; cook and microwave for 4 mins (heat for 1 min, and stir, then another min and stir, etc)until sugar is dissolved.Stir in vanilla. In a large bowl, combine the oats, nuts, coconut,Add honey mixture, stirring until evenly coated.Spread onto two ungreased baking pans. Bake at 300° for 20 minutes, stirring frequently.Stir in dried fruitCool, stirring occasionally. Store in an airtight container.Yield: 10 cups.
