There is a huge sign on NC Hwy 64 about a crab house on the OBX. My young child had just learned to read and was reading the signs. All the sudden out of nowhere I heard these words.... "I got my crabs at Dirty D*** Crab House". Almost wrecked!!!

I don'tlike crab either. I could eat those crab cakes at the one restaurant that was closed for putting uneaten pintos back in the pot but never had deviled crab that was any good.

you don't need a steamer to steam things. just have a large pot with lid, add a small amount of water in the bottom. figure out a way to lift the crabs out of the water. in the past, i have used a cookie cooling rack inside a roasting pan in the past. i have a pasta cooker with one of those inserts that i use for steaming now.

Google says cook them in a pot of salted boiling water for about 12 minutes until they start to float and then go to Wendy's.

Deviled crab, crab cake, steamed, boiled it doesn't matter if there's a Wendy's nearby.

You can, but boiling crabs is like frying a prime cut of steak. Steam them if you want crabs worth eating.

Can't you just boil them? Like... in water..... Without a steamer

You set one side on fire and as they retreat to the other side, you stab 'em with a fork.
It's what a certain buxom blonde poster told me once anyways.

If you're cooking blue crabs, use a large steamer pot or the biggest dutch oven you have. For about a dozen crabs, put about 3 inches of water and 1 can of beer. Bring to a boil then add LIVE crabs. Cover tightly for about 10 min, then uncover and sprinkle heavily with Old Bay seasoning. Cover and turn down heat to simmer for about 20-30 min or until crabs are a nice red/ orange color. You can also google "steamed crabs" (Maryland style) for more directions. It's my all time favorite meal, ever!

Just wondering how you cook the crabs you catch? Do you just boil them? If so for how long?
