If this recipe is too much trouble then you might want to try the similar recipe on the inside of the Quaker 1 Minute Quick Oats. Most people like it; however, I don't care for anything with raw oats in it. Indi-"burp"-gestion, don't ya know!

Bushman - that's the recipe I have from my mother - rest her soul - she was an excellent cook. I have all her recipes. She always used the quick oats in her recipe. They are so good :)

Here's one I've used but I don't think this is the traditional recipe used around here.

Cow Patties
Source: Texas Longhorn Cookbook

1 Cup shortening
1 Cup margarine
2 Cups brown sugar
2 Cups sugar
4 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 Cup chopped pecans
4 Cups flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
2 teaspoons baking powder
2 Cups oatmeal
1 (6 ounce) package chocolate chips
1 (6 ounce) package butterscotch chips
2 Cups crushed corn flakes

Cream shortening, margarine and sugars. Add eggs and beat well. Grandually stir in the remaining ingredients. Drop by teaspoonfuls on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 325 degrees for 10-12 minutes. Makes several dozen.
