I can't stand cooked turnips. My mom loved them and cooked them all the time when I was a kid.

Sugar - that might have helped to flavor them. They were so bland. No taste.

Peel and slice them then add to your pot of cold water on the stove, then bring to a boil. Turn down to medium- high heat and keep checking them with your fork as you do potatoes, to see when they're done.
Drain when cooked. Put in a bowl and I use a 'tater masher to mash them. Add a teaspoon of sugar to minimize the bitterness. You can't skip that step. Add some butter, maybe half a stick, to taste, salt and pepper. Adjust the butter to your taste. I don't care for much butter. They're easy to fix.

I like turnip greens and I love raw turnips. I can eat them like apples with a little salt but when you cook them I can't stand the taste. Maybe the ones you cooked were good to turnip eaters but I am not one. My granny would put sugar in hers.

They needed something more than salt. This was the first and last time I will attempt to cook turnips.

I had a hard time peeling and slicing the turnips so I boiled them and then sliced them and added water, butter and pepper. They were horrible, almost unfit to eat.
I have eaten good turnips but mine were not good. Don't know what I did wrong.
The Brussels Sprouts and Corn Bread was good. I also had some Blackeyed peas with the meal. The big bowl of Turnips I threw out.
