When cooking it has nothing to do with the alcohol conent (it is most all evaporated off) it is all about the taste of what you are cooking with. All wines (Brandy is a distlled wine (think of mooshine made from wine)). Yes the flavor matters. What do you want it to taste like. Most Brandy tastes like a blend between a mild bourbon whisky and a mild scotch whiskey in my opinion. But you can substitute with any alcohol you like (don't use vodka as it is "non flavored" (vodka is all about the alcohol and about the taste of the water.) Whatever flavor the beverage has before you cook with it gets slightly more concentrated after you cook with it. Also beware anything witha proof of 100 or higher (50% alcohol or higher ) is flammable. Brandy typically doesn't come close.

I remember cooking with brandy. Never put any into the food, though!

The apple brandy will do fine.
You can use the left over brandy to make homemade cold medication. Add brown sugar and lemon juice to it. My mom use to put rock candy into it also.

COOKING WITH APPLE BRANDY OR ANY FLAVOR WOULD WORK , THEY ARE MORE MELLOW THEN OTHER FLAVORS, CAN'T TASTE THE ALCOHOL.

It is a dessert recipe, so that should be fine. I just hate to buy a bottle of brandy that I wouldn't use much.

L2L Apple Brandy will give a slight apple taste .More than likely it will be just fine for you .Is the recipe sweet or savory? The alcohol will evaporate during cooking.

If the recipe calls for brandy, then that is what is needed. Apple brandy, I would guess, would have a distinctive apple flavor, and could mess up the flavor you are trying to achieve. If it were me following the recipe, I would get a small bottle of brandy.

I have a recipe that calls for brandy. I have some apple brandy that I used for a turkey recipe, does the flavor of brandy matter?
