I think we will try the flour one tomorrow. Now, I wonder if you can mix some cinnamon in it and make those smell good?

2 C. flour 1 C. salt 1 C. water
Mix salt and flour. Add in half the water, then gradually add the remaining water. Knead until the dough is smooth, this can take up to 10 minutes.
For flat dough ornaments roll out the dough on baking paper. You can also be creative and make odd shapes and wreaths (takes longer to bake.) Use cookie cutters, cut-out templates, or just use your hands.
Dust dough with flour and begin to add details to the ornaments with a toothpick, popsicle stick, and knife.
Don't forget to use a straw to make a hole so you can hang the ornament.
Baking: Time varies based on thickness of ornament Temperature: 325°F. Time: 1 1/2 hours - or until dry
Let cool before you begin. Paint with acrylic paints. Glue on beads, buttons, or any fun accessory. Coat with acrylic varnish when everything is dry
NOTE; Although the receipt does not say this, I would use plain flour, not selt rising. You don't want air bubbles. Also, if you coat with varnish, or some other protective, the bugs can't get in, and they will last for years.

I made some homemade ornaments outta flour & salt...of course they don't smell good, but you can paint them (which the kids will enjoy) & they will look pretty...I can't remember the recipie though...I found it online :)....It's always fun to do crafty things with the kids...I remember when my mama, my brother, & me used to do those things...we'd always make popcorn strands & hand on the trees outside for the birds....those were the days, can't wait till my little boy is old enough to do that kinda stuff with

here's a microwave version...with much better instructions. Cinnamon Apple Sauce Craft Glue Cookie Cutters (cut by hand if you like) Ribbon Toothpick
Mix equal amounts of apple sauce and cinnamon and add 1 teaspoon of craft glue for every cup of applesauce.
From reader comments, it seems using equal amounts of apple sauce and cinnamon sometimes results in wet dough. This depends on how watery your apple sauce is, so begin with one cup of apple sauce and one teaspoon of white glue, plus one cup of cinnamon - but also realize that you may need to add more cinnamon, in one-third cup increments, until the dough is of workable consistency.
Mix all the ingredients until you have a firm but wet dough. If you like you can substitute small amounts of cinnamon for a little nutmeg or ground cloves.
Roll out your dough to at least 1/4 inch thickness (less than this will make your ornaments a little weak and they break easily) and cut shapes with cookie cutters.
With a toothpick, poke a hole at the top of each ornament that is large enough for a ribbon to be pulled through. Place ornaments on a cooling rack or tray to dry completely. Depending on how large your ornaments are, drying could take a couple of days; it's best not to touch your ornaments during this time.
Once your ornaments are dry and if there are a few rough edges, you can easily remove the roughness with a little fine sandpaper. Sand your ornaments gently, as it doesn't take much to remove the little edges.
Tie a ribbon through the hole and, if you like, you can paint these ornaments or add a little glitter. Be sure not to cover the entire ornament with paint or the wonderful scent will be lost.

My microwave cookbook has a receipt for making them in the Microwave.
Years ago I made them. Works fine. See if your book has the way to do it.

I'm so not crafty. I used the first recipe, minus the cloves because I don't have that, and it just made a gooey mess. Tried to add extra glue, thinking that would help, but there's still no way to cut ornaments out of it. It's just a mess.
The kids had fun getting their hands in it anyway. Maybe after the lump dries a little, it will work better??

maybe you could set a small fan in front of them or under a ceiling fan to help them dry quicker..
I really don't see why you couldn't put them in the oven say on 150-175 or even on just the warm setting...

CINNAMON CHRISTMAS ORNAMENTS
4 oz. ground cinnamon (cheap spices can be purchased at dept. store) 1 tbsp. cloves 1 tbsp. nutmeg 2 tbsp. white school glue 3/4 c. applesauce
(Do NOT eat!)
Makes about 12 large ornaments.
Any spices can be used, the spices are only used to give the ornaments a good smell. Combine spices in a bowl, mix together. Add applesauce and glue. Work with hands until smooth. Mixture will be like wet dough, if too juicy add a little more spice. Roll out to a 1/4 inch thickness. Cut with Christmas ornament indented cookie cutters. Cut a hole in upper edge of ornament with a drinking straw so ornament can be hung.
Place on rack to air dry for several days (3 or 4 days), turning until dry. Do not put in oven. Great gift toppers or ornaments.

I think this has been on here before, but I can't find it. It probably belongs in the recipe section also, but I need a quick answer.
Has anyone ever made these? Can I bake them in the oven to dry them quicker?
