For my spinach dip I use just three different ingredients:

1 box thawed and drained chopped spinach

1 8 ounce container of sour cream

1 envelope powdered ranch dressing mix.

It tastes better after sitting for a day in the fridge and is great with potatoe chips as well.

For crab dip...

1 can imitation crab meat drained

1 small package cream cheese softened

1 teaspoon chopped horseradish.

Is good with a wheat thin typr of cracker but not buttery crackers I think.

1 bg frozenCHOPPED spinach

2 pkgs cream chz

4 tomatoes

1 lg onion

1 bag colby jack chz

1 sm jar of cut jalep. peppers

1 sm container of half&half

pre-heat oven to 400. put spinach in a lg mixing bowl, put in microwave untill hot. put both blocks of cream chz in bowl and place back in microwave untill you can blend them together well. add chopped tomatoes, onion, and peppers. ((I usually chop up about 20 slices of the pepper and it is hot enough for us, some like it with less...some like more)) mix with spoon. Then add colby & jack and a little less then 1/2 of the half&half, mix well place in baking dish and bake for about 35-45 min. You will need to stir a few times throughout baking. THIS WAS MY FATHERS && I LOVEEEE IT!!!!

in the past we have also added crap meat in the mix and it was also very tasty!

Enjoy!

The recipe I use is the one on the back of the Knorr Vegetable Soup mix. I use celery instead of water chestnuts, though, and cut or leave out the mayo. Using more low fat sour cream works just fine. I made the dip with the canned spinach. We liked it better than the frozen fresh. I heard, also, that spinach doesn't release it's nutrients until it is heated.

I've been thinking about this today and wonder if you have some fresh frozen kale or collard greens. I'll bet the kale, in particular, would be a great substitute. As you can see, my life is idling today when I'm thinking about kale versus spinach. Guess that is what happens after the holidays when the kids go back home.

No! Canned is cooked. Frozen is not. Different taste and texture.

I've used the canned when I make spinach artichoke dip and it was fine but I've never made just the spinach dip. What is the recipe and I might be able to give better advice.

I know I had a box of frozen chopped spinach in my freezer, but can't find it now. I need to make spinach dip for tomorrow. Would canned spinach be a successful substitute for the frozen?
Thanks!
