Making biscuits is something that really needs to be done almost daily to get it right and nobody cooks like that anymore. At least I don't. I use formular L.

Southern Biscuit Formula L - Makes great biscuits - just add milk. Can find it at Wal Mart most of the time, Greens's store in Clingman use to sell it and Food Lion.

Drop Biscuits is simply biscuit dough that is still to sticky to roll out. It needs more flour for that,,, so, you just drop them on a baking pan by the table spoon full.
Bake the same as biscuits.

I posted this on the White Gravy thread, and it will work for you too.
, Southern Biscuit, Formula L, complete Biscuit Mix.
Sold at Food Lion, and I'm sure other places.
Has the shortening already in it. Just add milk, or buttermilk, and make into dough.
You can roll it out and cut out biscuits, or just press it into a buttered oven pan, and make a "hoe cake".
350 degrees until golden brown
Flaky and delicious, melt in your mouth, like good restaurant biscuits.
Been using this for years.

The less you handle the dough the softer the biscuit. Think moist inside. I'm a granny and I'm still working on my technique.
Something cute for you guys. My youngest grandson saw a whole cake I made one day. His comment was Ma, now that's the biggest biscuit I ever saw in my life. And good too. Ever now and then he ask when I'm gonna make some more of those big biscuits. lol

When it comes to biscuits, it's not the recipe as much as the technique. Most every biscuit recipe is essentially the same. Flour of some type or other, shortening of some type or other, milk of some type or other, etc. But it seems that no two people make the same biscuits! IMO, it's one of those things that you have to work on and perfect yourself. Or else find yourself a patient Granny who is willing to show you the fine art. I think I'm a fair cook but I don't make biscuits satisfactorily....Yet.
