We call it sweet bread or hoe cake. Yes it is good.

We called it hoecake too. Doesn't matter what you call it though, it's GOOD!

We always called that a Hoe Cake but big biscuit does describe it.

preheat oven to 400-450 degrees whatever you prefer, depends on how fast you want to bake it.

2 --3 cups of self rising flour...depending on size of skillet

buttermilk...now I don't measure it exactly...but get it to a thick pancake consistancy..

you can add a little oil or crisco if you like...about 1/3 cup maybe...

get an iron skillet place on top of stove. I take bacon grease and pour into skillet just to cover the bottom...then use a paper towel to wipe the sides of skillet for complete coverage.

put on stove top...on medium high...let it get to just smoking...as in barely smoking hot....remove from heat...pour in batter.

then place the skillet into hot oven and let bake 15-20 minutes depending on size of skillet..

You can add cheese to the batter or herbs...anything you like!

Does any one know a easy recipe for whole cake? I have always called it big biscuit cause its just a big biscuit baked in a iron skillet. I have never maid biscuits but I make awesome gravy.
