I like them washed ,dried rubbed in oil then salted and baked .The skin gets crunchy and the salt is awesome.

I wrap mine in foil and put before doing so....I coat eat potato lightly in olive oil and then sprinkle sea salt on them. Really depends on the size of potato on how long it takes to bake them. But you can't BEAT a oven baked potato!!!

Potatoes vary so wildly in size and composition that it's impossible to tell how long it's going to take to bake any particular potato. I cook them at anywhere from 350 to 425, depending on what else I have in the oven at the time. (Since potatoes are usually part of a meal there's often something else going on in the oven.)

A small potato at a higher temperature will take as little as a half-hour. A very large potato can take over an hour. I usually allocate about 45 minutes for the job. I tell when it's done not by the time, but by sticking a fork in it. When the fork goes in easily, it's done.

Personally, I prefer to skip the foil wrap, which really steams the potato rather than baking it. It'll cook faster that way, but I think that the texture (especially of the skin) suffers.

If it's a rush job, you can start it in the microwave. Actually, you can do the whole thing in the microwave, and you get pretty good potatoes, but the texture is different from a true baked potato. So if you nuke the potato for 3-5 minutes (while the oven is pre-heating) and then give it 15 to 20 minutes in the oven, you'll get a good baked potato in less time
