I'm not a fan of canned asparagus, but fresh asparagus grilled is absolutly wonderful. All you do is trim the hard part off the bottom of the stems, wash it and sprinkle with kosher salt or sea salt...grill on all sides (you will have to roll it over a few times) until it has brown grill marks on all sides. Serve hot off the grill....YUMMY!!

I eat asparagus right out of the can but usually buy fresh asparagus and steam it with butter and garlic.

Sorry ,,I left the bundle of stalks out of recipe.

I bundle 4 or 5 stalks together.

The Pam is to make it crisp, Bacon or any other meat will cook more grease out of it if you brush or spray it first. It needs grease to extract grease.Dry meat will sear first.

I use a broiler pan the catch the grease in while backing

Bushman, that's a lot of grease! How about wrapping a strip of bacon around 2 or 3 asparagus stalks? Omit the Pam. It's really not necessary. I'd parboil the asparagus first and fry the bacon until half cooked and drain before wrapping around the asparagus. Just a suggestion. Anyway you serve it, asparagus will still make your pee smell funny.

Asparagus soup is nice, too, hot or cold. Creamed asparagus soup is best hot. cut up the asparagus and sautee in olive oil with some garlic and minced onion. drain off any excess oil, add half a can of chicken broth. Make a roux in another pan by melting butter or magerine (couple Tbs) adding 2 Tbs of flour and stir over medium heat until smooth and beginning to brown and bubble. slowly stir in the remaining half can of chicken broth and a half can of milk. Stir until smooth and add to the asparagus (or add the asparagus to the roux. Thin with a little milk if too thick. Dust each bowlful with emeril's Bayou Blast.

I agree that canned asparagus is probably the worst way to try it for the first time!

I usually use fresh, too. Just cut off the dry end, put a little olive oil in a pan, add the asparagus, then I dust them with Emeril's Bayou Blast seasoning.

With canned, all you can really do is heat them up in a pot with some butter. I've never tried them with Hollandaise sauce, but that's a heavy-butter sauce so it would probably do well.

Canned asparagus is mush! Buy fresh, or frozen. I like fresh. rinse real well under cool water to remove any sand or dirt. Lay flat and with a sharp knife cut off the woody painkish inch or so of the stems. Then you can either leave them whole and saute over medium heat in olive oil and garlic until tender (about 10 minutes), or you can cut them up into 1 inch pieces and steam or simmer them in water or broth for 10 or 15 minutes drain and serve with butter or Hollandaise sauce. Hollandaise sauce can be found in powdered form in the gravy section at the supermarket. Asparagus is delicious! Your pee will smell funny after eating them, though.
