my mom said just use your regular recipe for apple butter but substitute red hots for the sugar. If it calls for 2 cups sugar, put 2 cups red hots instead.

SLOW-COOKER APPLE BUTTER

Makes 5 to 6 pints.

2 quarts unsweetened applesauce

2 cups sugar

1/2 teaspoon ground cloves

2 tablespoons lemon juice

1/4 heaping cup red hot cinnamon candies

COMBINE applesauce, sugar, cloves, lemon juice and cinnamon candies in a slow cooker. Vent the lid.

COOK on low 8 to 10 hours, stirring about every hour. Apple butter thickens as it cooks, so cook longer to make it thicker.

POUR into pint containers and freeze.

Best I could do!

RED HEART APPLE BUTTER

5 c. applesauce
6 c. sugar
1 sm. pkg. strawberry Jello
1 (7 oz.) pkg. red hots

Bring to boil applesauce, Jello and red hots. Stir constantly. Add sugar; bring to a good boil and cook 2 minutes. Put in clean hot jars and seal.
