The top reviews come for the Fiskars x27 splitting axe, 36 inch handle 4.5 lb head. Lowes has a True Temper very similar for 32 bucks vs 45. I know this is not for "monster chunks" I have my big maul for that.

Never had any experience with a Fiska. But, do you want/need the chopping one or the splitting one? Or the super chopping one, or the super splitting one? Or one of each. Very expensive, but looks and sounds good. Have you checked Consumer Report to see if they have put them to the test yet?

What I'm talking about is NOT a regular axe. Google it.

Ifn's you gonna be busting a big ole pile of hardwood, you needs a wood buster (maul). An axe is ok for little jobs but I'd hate to think I had to bust a big pile of hickory or locust with just an axe. That just my 2 cents worth!

Does anyone use a splitting axe for your wood ? How do you like compared to the old heavy maul ? I'm looking at a Fiskars, 45 bucks, and a True Temper 32 bucks
