Each room should have 3 different shades of the dominant color.

Staining Wood.

My husband stained all wood things with something called Tongue Oil. It is clear and I still use that stuff now. I think you could buy it at a hardware store. It is better than lacquer.

Another tip.

Put a pair of gloves on and rub your fingers across the blinds and collect the dust on of them.

My Sister takes her blinds down and washes them in a bath tub and then she had to put them back up. Gloves for me. I like to do easy things.

Want a frosted window for privacy?

Want to make your window "frosted" for more privacy? Add 1 Tab of Epsom Salt to 1 cup of beer. Brush on window and let dry.

To remove the frost, wash off with ammonia.

A tip for the bathroom. After you hang shower curtains add a second lace curtain in front of the plastic one. It gives a lovely look to the shower curtain. I would go with white lace and a colored plastic shower curtain.

In my kitchen I only have a can opener and coffee pot on the cabinet. Canisters and other things are kept under the cabinet out of sight. Makes the kitchen look clean. No clutter in the kitchen.

Another repair tip.

If you ever have a light bulb to break off in the socket first turn the switch off and cut a big potato in half and then twist the potato half into the wires stuff in the light socket and twist and the broken things will come out all in one piece.

Another great decorating tip.

Never have 2 chairs, 2 end table and 2 lamps matching.

I used Pewter, Copper and Brass all in the same room.

when you hang your curtain/drapery rods, hang them far enough away from the window so that when you open the drapes/curtains .... all the glass is exposed for more light. and it makes the windows look so much bigger

Never never hang a picture in the center of a room. Off to one side is much more appealing.

My tip for the today.

If you happen to have a wood frame window that is stuck a sure way to unloosen the window is to take a pizza cutter and roll it around the wood frame and window will be unstuck.
