thanks thisnthat, if the seeds take so long i think i will start checking that out. just in case things go to he77 in a hand basket, i want to be able to harvest seeds or have something to carry over for another season

You buy the little onions, stick them in the ground, and you get one onion for one little onion.

Can't do it with onion seeds. They take about 3yrs to make the little onion bulbs.

i have a lot of herbs started inside. i will be planting those in pots so i can bring them inside at the end of the season.

i also started a lot of flowers seeds this year. yeah i know it's not food ... but there's always room for some beauty

i want to ask about onions. does everyone use starter plants? is that the only way to grow onions?

I have started tomatoes, eggplant and jalapeno peppers inside.

They are about an inch tall. They should be ready to go in the ground by late April.

We will plant our usual acre garden in the river bottoms.... Potatoes,sweet potatoes,beets, greenbeans, peas, okra, squash, peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, corn, watermelons, canteloupes, greens, turnips, Not all at the same time of course....and we usually wait a little later until the ground warms up....

Just picked a big mess of creasy greens yesterday!!!!

You can start it you want, lettuce does prefer cold, but if you put a garden in around the first week of May, you will have all the vegetables you can eat.

Cold weather and frost isnt over yet. You want to work yourself to death, its there for the taking. I plowed my garden spot, but Im not planting for another couple of months.

Time now to plant cabbage,onions,broccoli,brussel sprouts,chives,leeks,garlic,some lettuce,,cauliflower and spring greens.

I got some herb seed also that I need to get started. I know it'll take lots of work to do all of this for the garden, but we're hoping to be reaping lots of benefits in the form of veggies and fruits. I have lots more I'd like to plant as well. Oh...I also got some strawberry plants that I'm hoping to get planted as soon as it stops raining...whenever that will be. lol

I started squash seeds and egg plant already. They are starting off good. Im going to start peppers and tomato also.

We started the tomatoes about a week or so ago.The onions and lettuce we started about a week or so ago as well. The rest we just started today.

will put one up front this year for sure....Tomatoes, Eggplant my favorite, Green Beans if they survive the varmits around here lol...

How is the broccoli turning out so far? I have never started turnips on the inside. Maybe I will try those.

We're having a lots bigger garden this year than last year. I've got tomatoes, eggplant, broccoli, beets, and turnips started inside. Outside we have lettuce and onions started. We'll be putting lots of effort into the garden and harvesting this year. Our freezer space will definitely be put into good use this year.

How big of a garden do you usually plant? Better make it bigger. Prices of gas going way up, will make those grocery store prices much higher.
