I have gotten into starting some of my own plants and direct sowing some of the seed. Direct sow seems to work really well for most of the garden. I do start my tomatoes early and transplant into a large 17 oz cup. I had some really healthy plants last year. Direct sow is most cost effective. Getting what I needed to start my plants was costly but after buying and reusing the trays from year to year it gets better(replacing any damaged item is usually not to bad)

Thanks for your post. I have been having some good luck here with the garden. I can always buy it cheaper in the store but it just don't taste the same and I don't trust that the store produce is safe to eat even though it looks good. There have been so many times I brought store bought produce home just to be disappointed.

I want to thank everyone for my last gardening season success. Horse manure has been spread and turned in. I have started getting my seed supply in. I will be having along with my old standby Rutgers Heirloom tomatoes, Longkeeper Tomatoes, 4th of July Hybrid tomato and trying a new variety, Steakhouse Hybrid just for kicks. I have upped my Kennebec potatoe patch by 2, 200 ft. rows making 2200 feet of rows total. I also have a old time large pie pumpkin, jack o lantern, Buttercup winter squash, Kandy Korn, Stone Head cabbage, and pickling cucumbers. I grew a few white half runners last season and they did well and might plant some extra this season. And don't want to forget the peppers, okra, green peas and watermelons that did well also.

Let's here what everyone is doing.

I have extra space if anyone that either doesn't have a place or no way to till, would be glad to work something out with you for labor or small fee. You can have as large or small a garden as you like.
