lol, the bamboo came with the maple, it's there to train the plant like a drill sergeant.

opon closer inspection, you have a maple tree growing beside your bamboo. The roots of the maple will kill your bamboo.

DUH......I did say Maple. Actually it's a Weeping Japanese Cherry, I guess which is also a graft. Sorry. It gets pink blossoms in the Spring.

I would LOVE to see a picture of your weeping maple, is it a red dragon?
Also, when you first got it did you have to do anything special to winterize it when it was small?
Mine is a two year graft, kinda skimpy looking, I'm hoping it'll turn into a swan.

I have a weeping Japanese Maple that is also grafted. Every year I have to trim the shoots from the main trunk. This year I have at least 3 shoots at the top, plus a 2 small suckers further down the trunk. I don't want to prune them because there is a Robin with her SECOND brood in a nest. I didn't know birds did it more that once a season.

I bought it off the clearance table at a nursery in Caldwell County about 4 years ago. It was tiny and looked pretty scruffy, but since it was cheap enough, I thought "whatthehell". It's really turned out to be a great investment. So far, growing well and very shapely.
Knocking on wood...no pun intended!

Did you germinate yours from seed or buy a tree?
