Lol, great comments, I tried one before frost back when I was a kid, ok, maybe 2 or 3, hate em, hate em, hate em, even tried the pudding once, just couldn't handle that either, maybe cause all I could think of was how incredibly bitter and nasty tasting they were when I stupidly ate em too early

Eat one, or should I say, attempt to eat one before frost and you will never forget when to pick them again. It will draw your mouth shut! Nothing like it! However, after the frost they are sweeet, sweeet goodness! before frost after frost

They have to have some cold weather or they are SOUR!

They are really good after a frost on them.

Always heard you have to pick them after the first frost so they won't be bitter. Makes wonderful persimmon pudding!! They do look a little brown and a little mushy when they are ripe.

Put down tarps. They are ripe when they fall. Ripe persimmons look a little rotten, but they are not.

We have a persimmon tree and have never gathered the fruit. when is the best time to get them in order to use the fruit either perserves or baking? Last year the fruit looked like it decayed before it even fell off the tree. I have heard that it is very good prepared but just dont know when to pick them any suggestions?
