making seed potatoes

I planted 10 rows 200 feet long using mostly bought seed potatoes but had to finish up with some that where in my cellar from last year. The ones from my cellar came up more even than the Maine seed potatoes. We'll see how the turn out is around August.

They "become seed potatoes", when you cut them up with one of the eyes in each piece and plant them.

I've grown in tires before and they are too much effort, look bad, and leach bad chemicals. I am going with this idea this year

Folks use to say if you planted your potatoes in a different location from year to year these would classify as certified potatoes. I bought some certified potatoes from a Wilkes location a couple years ago.I had better luck with the left over from previous season.

My grandparents used to plant the "eyes" of potatoes. We had potatoes in abundance every year.

Some people claim they can get 100 pounds of potatoes from one potato tower. I'm going to try it. https://www.google.c...p;tbm=isch

Lots of folks swear by certified seed, but I have replanted left over potatoes for years, with pretty good results. A lot depends on the growing season and how and where they are planted.

I've found that if I keep any potato in my pantry long enough It will sprout.

Some people say not to use store bought potatoes for seed because they might be sprayed with a chemical to keep them from sprouting but I have never had a problem with this. The best crop of potatoes I ever grew happened in my compost pile from potato peelings while the ones in my garden that I put a lot of work into didn't do as well.

Wilkespeddler, Any potatoes will serve as seed as long as they have eyes! You can cut them into sections as long as you keep a couple of eyes in each section. It is best to let them dry for a couple of days before planting. Good luck on your potatoe garden!!

Cut them up and leave an eye in each piece, that's where the plant sprouts from.

If I buy potatoes at the grocery store what is the quickest way to get them to become "seed potatoes" ? I'm asking this because I want to grown some different types of potatoes other than the ordinary locals.
