Is it safe to plant deck maters yet?

The second week in May is the standard safe date., although I have seen what we call a killin frost much later. With the cost of plants at less than fourty cents, I plant early. The reward of getting that big ole mater sandwich two or three weeks early is worth the risk to me.

if you do decised to grow tomato plants on your deck and there is frost in the weather forcast, a good thing to do is cover each individual plant with an empty 2 liter soda bottle with the neck cut off. This prevents frost from getting to the plant and withering it.

I guess if your deck is big enough for the maters, and it's not a frosty deck, then you're good to go, wit your big deck...full 'o maters.

May 10 to october10 is what it used to be. Before all the weather change.

If you are going to keep them in a container on the deck place them in a place at night where the frost want hit them. Put them in the sun of a day and keep them watered.

I was always told May 15 is the "safe" date.
