Shoeboy, It's a reverse rise and run situation. Extending the width of your eaves means that you will need too extend the length of the rafters. You need to determine the distance from the top of the doors and windows to the soffit or fascia board. For the horizontal extension of the eaves, the soffit and or fascia will be lowered in proportion as determined by the roof pitch. You can however slope the soffit if needed. Hope this helps.

Funny thing. We were just talking yesterday about how glad we were to have wider eaves outside the front and back doors of the "not new anymore" addition. Don't know if it is the norm or what but we love ours and wish it were like that at all the doors.

Would wider gutters naked care of your problems? We have 6" gutters instead of the normal 3 inch!

They can be built so wide you could fit another house under them.

There often times is electrical wiring that gets cut during this procedure and I've seen it done even by pros.
