Yes it is true. Heating and air companys charge an arm and a leg for their services....why? Because they can. They know you want air and heat. My husband used to work for a local heating and air company, they charge $85 an hour plus parts, and there was a huge markup on the parts. And the service charge is $135 an hour on weekends and after hours, and then the cost of parts on top of that. Now he works for a Heating and air company out of the county.

My husband has done some service work for several people on here. He doesn't charge the same outrageous prices the companies do and he don't have the markup on the parts.

I recommend Wilkes Heating and Air. I had a problem with my Air over the summer. They came out to see what was wrong, ordered the part, was back the next day to fix my Air. They did not charge me an arm and a leg. They actually charged me way less than what I thought it would be.

He may be able to. What area are you in?

There is no such thing as cheap service for a heat/ac system. Parts are very expensive and a service call can run a minimum of $70. I had a compressor go bad and it was under warranty and still cost me about $600 to fix.

He said it could be a capacitor that needs replacing, a fan motor that needs replacing, a defrost board that needs replacing, could be a number of things. What area do you live in?

My husband works for a heating and air company. I will ask him what the problem might be.

Sounds like you may have a bad relay to the heat element or loose corroded wires. keep in mind I am no expert on how a furnace works.

There should be a relay that turns on the heating element and one that cycles the blower fan. The fan should run longer than the heat element to allow a cool down period.

My neighbor says he has a similar problem and his has melted wired. I advised him to turn the power off to the furnace and ask his property owner to get a service guy to inspect it.

I really don't know who to recommend for a service call, that is what I understood you were looking for on this thread. The guys that put in my monitor was Advance (unsure of the name) out of Beach Mountain or something like that.

It sounds like you're going to have to get a service guy to look at it. William Carson will probably do it cheap as anyone. 838-1161 home 927-3342 cell. I'm not sure if that cell number is current.

If it is a programmable stat,. perhaps it has been programed for those temps ... otherwise it could very well be bad. Look for the model number on it and Google it ... you should be able to find a manual on how to program the thing IF, in fact, it happens to be that type of thermostat. .

it is a digital one, and you can change it from heat to air

Well ... it could be a thermostat ...they do go bad. Is it the old round analog type or is it a digital one? Is it programmable? Either stat, is it set for heat only?
