Thank you river otter! I watched the video and he also said to cut a piece of weed eater string and place up in the pipe and pull it when it freezes up. I cut a piece about 7 inches long and washed it and place it in there with about two inches sticking out. It has worked great. I think it helps to keep it from freezing solid because of taking up space in the pipe. It has only frozen up twice since I put the string in but a tug on the string un-sticks the ice and gets it going again. So glad to have filtered water!

The guy in the video suggests insulation. If you do that I'd suggest you use reflectix. It's foil faced double bubble wrap and it can be taped on with foil tape.

We bought a used GE Side by Side that has water and ice in the door. The water keeps freezing daily. It is freezing in the freezer door right behind the dispenser. The place we purchased it does not cover the ice maker and water. When I called about it they told me to cut down the temp in the freezer to 2 and in the refrigerator to 2. I did this and the fridge temp got up to 45 degrees which is too warm. I had to cut it back up to 3. I have the freezer set at 2 and it seems to be cold enough. This has been going on for a few months. I googled this problem and saw that turning on the light bulb in water maker would thaw it out if it was frozen in door. I tried this and it worked. So daily I have to turn on the light bulb for about an hour to thaw it out. I need filtered water for health issues and would like to save money and not have to buy water. Waiting an hour or two daily for this to unfreeze is getting a little annoying. Anyone have any tips on how to stop this from happening? I read a little about buying a heater and installing, but I don't think I can tackle that. I don't want to spend any more money paying someone to do that. We have spent hundreds on our previous fridge and then bought this one used. I also read about buying some insulation to insulate.
