If you have a problem with deer they get spooked if you line the perimeters of your garden with a strand of VHS tape, it looks spooky to humans, even, if you don't know what it is.

This might be a little weird but I started vermicomposting to produce worm castings, make a tea and spray it all over the area. The enzymes in the worm castings is a powerful deterrent for all insects and it makes a great fertilizer. I use a little kelp fertilizer and some molasses in the mix to increase biological activity, it makes the fertilizer much more potent.
I used a green plastic fence to keep kritters out of my garden

We put a 2 ft border of chicken wire around our raised bed last year. That was tall enough to keep out the rabbits & stuff but we could still pick veggies over it. We really didn't have any problems with any kind of beetles or bugs last year.

Satan, my friend (that sounds weird to say!) the OP said "pests", which could include beetles, bugs, and worms. Chicken wire ain't much of a deterrent for them kinds of pests!

I would suggest planting them outside the perimeter of your raised bed...I've done that in the past...seemed to work pretty good.

I am doing my first vegetable garden in a raised bed and was looking for some ways to keep pests from eating the plants. Any suggestions?
