THANKS!!! Keep those GREAT tips coming. I am looking into haybales and the raised garden ideas. LOL..being single mom, I need the cheapest and easiest way.

Add crushed dolomite lime to your soil and some perlite

Soil testing is crucial. If the ph is close to 7, more yield, less weeds. Lime is cheapest way to attain it. And great for yards too.

you can use hay bales to plant your tomatos in. they retain water and compost from the inside out.

I would encourage to start small, like you suggested. I would also encourage you to use disease resistant plants since there are numerous diseases out there that can quickly spread and kill your plants. Probably the best advice is to be out in the garden every day to monitor what is going on.

We did a raised bed last year. Just started with one that is 4 x 4 so it can be reached all the way around. We planted cucumbers, tomatoes & squash in it. They did really good & it was so easy to take care of. We're building another one this year for corn. Put the raised beds in the edge of your yard & just leave room to mow between them. It sure beats digging or having to wait on someone to plow. You can also plant lettuce, tomatoes & things like that in big pots...I'm going to do that this year also.

I have not had a garden in YEARS and was wondering WHAT are your GREAT tips!! for a productive crop. I am not looking to have a large garden, maybe green beans, tomatoes, squash, peppers.
